How to refill transmission oil

Hi all,

Recently I had to do some radiator work and lost a little transmission fluid thru the cooling lines. Does anybody happen to know how to refill the oil? How do I check the level? I understand there's a filter for tranny, does that need to be changed? Thanks.

It is a very good idea to change your tranny filter - should theoretically be done everytime you have a tranny service. As for filling, I am not 100% sure - hopefully someone else can chime in on that one...

For my 1997 S600, you fill through the dipstick tube. My transmission is different from yours, however. But, many transmissions get filled through the dipstick tube.

That's right, and check the level with the engine running after a short drive having used both forward and reverse. Careful not to overfill as the level goes up faster than you would expect.

Yep, the dipstick tube. It's in the rear of the engine at least on the 500. It will say something like only a licensed MB tech should take off the dipstick for the trans fluid.

Fluid level is checked on a level surface, with the car running in park, at operating temperature, clean lint-free cloth to wipe the dipstick, add through the dipstick, careful not to overfill.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm done with the water pump and will try to refill tranny on the weekend.
