Spring replacement

Well in the process of doing the rear brakes, I discover that my passenger side rear coil spring is broken on the 95S420. D**m. For the last year I've wondered why the back of the car seems to droop. Now I know. Will need to replace some of the rubber components as I feel the stabilizer was redirecting all the load from the broken spring to the other side of the car.

Need some assistance. Most of the DIY articles direct the DIY'er away from this job as it can be very dangerous when releasing the stored energy in the spring. Expecially if you aren't using one of "M-B's" spring compressors. I have just recently been made aware of a process for changing truck coil springs where the spring is compressed and banded in the compressed state (with multiple bands). You install the compressed spring into the spring saddle, raise the tire so that the spring is in contact with the spring saddles, then cut the banding. Seems simple. Anyone tried this before?

you dont need to have the spring compressor from MB to do that any Spring compressors will do. (usualy its just two oposite hooks on a long screw bolt and you put one on each side of spring and tighten them on each side equaly...but yeah there isnt much room back there and spring can be real dangerous if the compressor was to fail or slip...if you have any doubts get shop to do it, better be safe than sorry!
