S420 vs. S500 + a W140 coupe?

In the US market what is the difference between my 96' S500 and a 96' S420? Is it just the engine? Is this a smaller 4.2litre V8? Is the S420 still a LWB? Any options standard on the S500 that were not on the S420?

I like my S500 so much I was thinking about trying to find a 2 dr coupe version of the 96 or later W140. What is the model name for this coupe?

TIA,
Tim

The coupes always get lost in the mix 1991-93 they were XXXSEC, after that they were just SXXX, and in I think 97 they changed to CLXXX.

Also the only difference between the 420 and 500 was the motor, atleast in euro markets you guys have a weird teir of options there, here you could get whatever you wanted on any engine.

Except from at least one thing only available on the six-cylinder gasoline models - a 5-speed MANUAL gearbox! I can hardly think of any way to make the value of a W140 drop faster than buying it with that option... (of course you could add manual seats, no leather, no AC etc )

Also, the 4.2 pumped out more torque than the 5.0

The coupé, C140 came 1993 a few 1992.
The 1993 model was named "SEC" just as the C126.

1994-1995 got the name "S".

1996-1998 got the name "CL"

I don`t think so and certainly not in Europe where the stock 4.2 produced peak torque of 400nm and the 5.0 470nm respectively. ( 295lbs-ft -v- 347lbs-ft)
