1993 600SEL body harness vs. wiring harness

I recently took my 1993 600SEL to the dealership from where I purchased it because of "check engine" light being on and car would not accelerate properly.

Here's the verbage from the dealer service invoice:

"Client stating could not get over 25 mph. Smells of gas. Please check. Run short test, several fault codes. Inspect vehicle for fuel leak, no leaks found. Misfire code for cylinders 1-6 due to faulty wires in body harness. Starting point for fixing vehicle is replacing body harness."

I've read a number of posts that list similar symptoms and they refer to the wiring harness or just harness... and the replacement seems to be relatively simple. Is there a difference between the "body harness" and the "wiring harness"?

Thanx,

Brian

Inspect the wiring to the air mass meters, the electronic throttle actuators (ETA's), the fuel injectors, and any other wires running in the engine compartment. Replace as needed.

Brett San Diego & pcmaher,

Thanks for the help. We'll check it out this weekend.

One question though, are you saying that what the dealer is calling the "body harness" and what everyone else calls the "wiring harness" is the same thing?

Thanks,

Brian

Who knows exactly what they're talking about until you see the parts. It is well known, however, that in the earlier model W140's (through MY1995), the original wiring in the engine compartment ends up looking like the pictures that pcmaher shows in his write-ups and needs to be replaced.

Brett,

Have succesfully repair your wiring on your throttle Actuator? What procedure did you use on this? I find easier to repair the engine wirng harness by cut and splice at the end.

The throttle actuator are sealed at the end plugs.

My car is a 1997 model year. As far as I can tell my car is beyond the years of the bad wiring. It is pcmaher who has rewired his throttle actuators. See his website, v12uberalles.com .

Also, see recent posts by "lesrrt." He did the same thing within the last month. It is possible to open up the connectors if you are really careful.
