Headlight Upgrade

Hello All-

Thinking I want more light out of the front of my 1992 400SE. I had seen some of the light bucket or entire headlight assembly upgrades posted on here in the past but $300 seems like a lot to pay just for a light upgrade.

I wanted to know if anyone had ever upgraded just the bulbs. like say to a 90W/130? If so, did you have to install a Relay harness? or will the stock wiring handle it? Any other ideas for an economical headlight upgrade?

Thanks,

Kyle

RE: Headlight Upgrade

I may but the some 90/130w bulbs this weekend along with a relay harness and give it a shot. Summitracing.com has a good price on the relay harness. $32.00, so ill have to get that too inorder to protect my factory harness and switch.

Anyone else have any ideas?

RE: Headlight Upgrade

I did two things that DRAMATICALLY inmproved my lighting. 1) installed Silverstar bulbs. quite expensive - $20 ea at the local autoparts 2) changed the lenses on the headlight assembly. I just did the lenses yesterday - amazing difference. I would do that before getting into a big wiring change. I too thought about higher wattage bulbs but then thought about the extra heat generated and the potential to start things melting, etc. etc. Also, the higher current draw might throw the whole thing out of balance.
