ASR/ABS problems

I certainly hope you won’t hate me but I tried to search a bit, not to much being lazy, but…
My ASR/ABS failure lamp comes on when I start to drive.
In the beginning it was only now and then and a restart always helped, being a Microsoft user it was not to annoying to restart my car every now and then.
But as my other car had some technical problems I started to use my S-class every day, and it behaved nice, very nice, no problems at all.
Now as I have started to use the G-class again it started to make trouble.
Now it is impossible to get the car going without ASR and ABS to shut out. And now even my parameter steering also shuts down.
As earlier a restart helps, but only so long, after some time it comes back.

I have some ideas to what to look fore, but if you have any tips to find fault codes, do a self check or in another way have tips or hints I certainly say thank you.

My car is a Mercedes-Benz (Surprise!) 400SE 1991 model

RE: ASR/ABS problems

Hello,

Does the light come on when the wheels start to move?

If yes: Check the multiplug is in the ABS ECU. Then check the ABS ECU.

If no: In the engine bay there are a couple of ABS plugs. Check these fist. They often give a bad contact. It's probably the two pin one rather than the antenna looking plug, but try both on both sides. (RH and LH)

My answer to that Q is yes, if you let the car idle forever, the lights will stay off.

Once you shift to D and start rolling forward or backward, the lights turn ON.

Can you give me more details about how to check the ECU and multiplug...

Thanks
Bayhas

RE: ASR/ABS problems

Well it is like this, some times it stays off, all the way, usually it comes on right after i start to drive, like i get to drive out of the garage.
Then I stop it and restart and then it stays off until it suddenly comes on again.
I have been looking fore a pattern, but I haven’t been able to find one.
Yesterday it came on twice when braking, so I kind of thought that it might appear when breaking. But the last drive told me wrong. It comes on even when driving without breaking, as it did later on that day.
So any ideas are appreciated.
I will go check my ABS connections.

RE: ASR/ABS problems

you might have 2 problems with your vehicle

1. is that the voltage is low, after starting the ESP indicator lamp was on and later extinguished.

2. Starting to drive of the ESP lamp comes on; you might have a dirty/damaged speed sensor or rotor resulting to this fault.
