Hello all, I'm a new member on the site and i'm in the u.k. I have spent many hours searching for answers to this problem and I'm hoping i've found the proffessionals (Excuse spelling tired) I've been to MB and they say its an elimination process that can take 5 hours @ £90 an hour!!!! and that dont fix it bloody comedians!!! Can anyone help as I see a couple of you have had the prob how did you fix it??[:(]
RE: inoperative speedo and fuel consumption gauges
Just a thought. I have not pulled my w140 instrument cluster but there are descriptions of the technique somewhere in the FAQ knowlege base posts. My 928 has a vaguely similar cluster and a single loose plug on its back caused two gauges to quit.
Maybe loose connection on yours.

RE: inoperative speedo and fuel consumption gauges
Thanks to all for your help, Just so as to let others know I pulled the top of a box to the rear right of engine as you stand and look at it. You have to take out 4 allan bolts to get it off ( just so as you know you have the right one) under there I found 2 10amp fuses and the one on the left had blown replaced it tried it and yephee cured prob. Mind you it has bought about another Q anyone know what the two empty fuse slots are for???
RE: inoperative speedo and fuel consumption gauges
no and i dont want to find out - who knows what else might go wrong should you stick fuses in there. I had the same thoughs as you when i opened up my box. Glad you found the problem. James
