Steering Damper

How do I know when my steering damper is bad? Car tracks straight and doesnt sway or anything like that.

How many miles on the car? I change mine every 60K or so.

Slight shimmiing and a hesitation to straighten out after a turn, both of which dissapear after the change.

The damper is cheap and easy enough to replace to do just as a precaution.
