Is this true about buying used engine?

I am trying to buy a used engine locally for my 92 benz 400se that has blown gasget. This guy tell me that I have to exchange my engine for his +1800 dollars. He said it is a common practice in buying an engine.
240k miles engine with blown gasget+1800 dollars = 120k used engine with 30 days warranty???? Good deal or not
thank for any comment.

RE: Is this true about buying used engine?

Your description is vague - is the motor a reman? Does it come with any rebuilt parts? Your old accessories (alternator, compressor, water pump etc)?

Or is this just a 120k mile motor that runs, and may be good for 30 days? Did he get it from a junkyard? Did he test it? Under load? Do we know the motor's history? Gasket already been replaced?

Frankly, if I had the least bit of confidence in this guy, and he could get it running it may be worth considering. How much is car worth? Have you costed new/remans motors?

Is this price installed?. How much would it cost to fix the head gasket?. On paper, assuming this used motor runs well, it seems like a fair deal.

Get some more opinions, head gasket cant be tath big a job. putting in a unknown engine can get you more problems. ADSIT is selling rebuilt 420 engines for $1950
