RE: Chrome center caps?
i too have some chromed oem rims, but the chrome started peeling off by itself after a while........ I am actually not sure if they are real MB rims, or imitations. They came with the chrome center caps though. I bought my s500 used so, I don't know. so I hope you are getting them chromed from a good company.
Here's what mine look like:

MB did not offer a chrome wheel option on the W140. Your's are imitations. My Opinion - chrome just looks bad on a W140.
You have a huge fender gap. What is the size of your wheels and tyres? Were your springs ever replaced with non factory ones?
yea, i know what you mean. I kinda want to replace them with some 97-99 rims. I am pretty sure that the previous owner just chromed the factory rims. My spare is an alloy rim, and it is the same size as the chromed rims. He could have replaced the springs with non factory ones, but is that bad? because the ride quality in my car is very smooth, and i like how my car looks kinda high....
I dont know if its a poor job or not, but chrome itself will not last forever, especially on a rim which goes through many heat cycles due to brake calipers, brake dust and the worst of them all, the chemical car wash uses to remove brake dust is acid based. I always tell them not to use ity on my car whenever I use a car wash, summer time Ialways wash the car myself, it feels so much bette.r
How can I tell?
The OEMs have the small hole between the lug bolt holes. The replicas "I have seen" do not. I could be wrong. The shape and design of your rims is identical to the OEM.

yea. Before this, i had no experience with chrome, but now i think it is better to stick with alloy. I never knew that about the acid based brake dust remover car wash. Now i think i should wash the car myself more....

oh yea, i never noticed that.... These are most likely oem, cuz the 96's came with this style of rim. It could have been a poor job, but as mentioned by Tbilisi79, chrome rims do not last forever.
