Hi, on my 500SE -92 there are front speakers and I suppose they are for phone and not in use as i do not have a phone. Planning on using them.
Any of You know if they are wired with fx. cables ready behind the radio, and if so what color? (trying to avoid work....)
And also what is the general opinion on Bose Amp 140 820 00 89, couple of channels are gone, is this very common, I mean, is it any use buying a new used one, or can You expect this failure as a rule?
(used one $200. Renovate mine , incl. shipping etc. $600)
RE: Front speakers (for phone)+ opinion on Bose Amp
The 500SEL and 600 were wired and had speakers installed your SE might or might not. The wires for those speakers terminated in the rear fender well (drivers side)and were plugged into the phone harness.
Maybe you could shine a light into the grille and see if you can see the cone, the phone install instructions showed how to install the speakers by finding the connector on each side, and removing the grilles.
I would not get a used one since they all had bad capacitators, the rebuild is going for around $400 with at least a two to three year warranty.
RE: Front speakers (for phone)+ opinion on Bose Amp
I went the rebuild route for my amp as well. It was through a small company (can't remember the name now) in Cocoa Beach, FL and they charged $400. Well worth it since the prive to replace mine with a new one would have run me about $1,800. Couldn't see changing out the entire system either, with as good a quality sound the stock system provides.
