Hello everyone, Just wanted to let you guys know I finally purchased a 1999 S500 Grand Edition! It took me over 2 years of constant searching to find one with low miles. I bought one from Texas with 50,400 miles!! I can't wait to get it! But now I have to sell my 93 500SEL [:(][V][:(] So if anyone is interested in it, it is FOR SALE and needs to go ASAP!! If you're interested, make me an offer!
I'll let everyone know how the Grand Edition is after I get it (should be 2 weeks or so). [:D]
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the major difference with the GRAND EDITION are the modifications to the drivers seat and the suspension.
The seat base squab has a recess on the right hand side at the rear to accommodate the larger wallet of the owner. Also the rear spring rates have been increased to allow for the heavier badges.
haha along with those 2 options... the Grand Edition only came in Obsidian black paint, with beige intereior. The seats are also set up like an S600 (only not two tone) It has stock 18" AMG rims and a stock wood steering wheel. It also has a power rear sunshade, and sunshades on the rear doors which the passengers can put up manually. It also has illuminated Mercedes-Benz sign on the bottom of the driver and passenger door sills. But the real "Grand" thing about it is, Mercedes only produced 600 of these W140s for their final year of production! It's purpose was a have a special edition S500 for the final year (1999). Personally, I just like the way the car looks. I love black in the W140, and the wood steerwheel looks awesome! I really want the S600 but I can't afford the maintance on a V-12, or the gas.... The Grand Edition is the best!! CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT!!!!
Special obsidian black paint, parchment interior with stained black wood, 18" AMG wheels, special floor mats that say "Grand Edition," illuminated door sills in the front, and only 600 made worldwide.
Sounds very special. Don't forget to post pictures ( including interior) after you take delivery. I don't think the GRAND EDITION ever made its way to Australia, perhaps only LHD?
