ASR

Hello,
owner of '92 500 SE, have enjoyed reading and learning about the problems with hte car. It seems my car has all the "standard" probs.
Adjusted the "timing" of soft close system with good result. Changed the front shocks in 1 h 40 min.
Fixed electr. seat adjust in back of drivers seat, added some isolation to a line.
Probably have faulty Bose, pops and cracks in front and rear right speakers.
BUT, main prob is ASR lamp lighting up appx 3-5 mins after start, no problem with engine power.
Before lamp lights , normal ASR function (can not slip on wet leaves!).
AND there is an audible sound from the hydraulic unit ASR ABS sys. front of fuse box left. As if a pump goin dry.
This stops when ASR lamp lights up.

Anyone have a clue?

RE: ASR

Could be a bad sensor.. Have you had the car in to have codes pulled?

RE: ASR

No, I've not done that.
Called tech. who told me the same as you, tried also, with his advice to check sensors on front wheels, but, must say I didn't understand the setup things, I see a cable going to somethin that looks like solid Alu, if this is connected with a socket it's stuck....Also some plastic round thing kind of open in one end and directed towards the ground..

I think I need to pull the codes.

Or any sugg. on "cleaning the sensors"??

RE: ASR

If the ASR works when you start the engine (within a few minutes) the ASR/ABS pump is ok. There is a timeout (should be 60 sec). Within that time the pressure can not be built up accordingly. While the pump builds pressure initially I intent to say the pressure switch in the pump is bad. Unless you loose brake fluid, then it's the accumulator inside the fender.

Why do I know? I got the same problem right now. Here's the bad part - THERE ARE NO PARTS FOR THE PUMP AVAILABLE! Not at all!
You have to buy/replace the whole pump. Part# for my '94 E420: A 002 431 45 12, price $3470.70

So if you or someone else has one that works or knows anymore about it, like an overhaul kit or something, I would appreciate any tips and hints to frankegd at yahoo dot com

Thanks
Frank
