As the car gets hot, the resistance in the distributor goes up, and electrical service to the plugs is compromised. Eventually, the car starts misfiring, timing is thrown off, and in the long term may damage your pistons and engine. Plugs will also get fouled. Total cost at dealership = $1,000. DIY will cost you about $300.
