RE: mirror motor

This may have only worked by luck...but I experienced something similar and was dreading new mirror motor cost.

Get out the trusty WD-40 and lube the radius of gear teeth. When the mirror gets stuck I really think it's from lack of use. So, I sprayed alot of WD40 on the teeth, pins, and anything else that looked like it was a motor, gear or pivot point. Cycled the mirrors a few times and they worked!

Note: do thise every so often - 6 mos or so - to keep them working. And dont forget to cycle them a few times a month as well.

Good luck !

RE: mirror motor

The motor is expensive. I had the MB dealer replace the motor on the passenger side. But I the same problem with the driver's side mirror, but intermittently. I don't know if it is the switch on the console or the motor, I am tempted to find the tool to pry the motor apart and test for current. These cars are wide and folding the mirrors is a nice function to save them from being knocked off.

Same problem here, my gosh. Mine would fold but would not unfold.

I shall try the WD40 as soon as possible. US stealerships ask for 600$ for the whole set and they can't sell just the motors. Sucks...

RE: mirror motor

i had the same problem guys, and i did it and now they work great.... i even sprayed some on the passenger side one which was working fine, and now it moves faster....my mechanic said to also use silicone spray... that works better than wd 40... havent tried it yet though with the silicone....

RE: mirror motor

Greasing everything was a trick my grandfather taught me. He used to put oil - lots of it - on all of his equipment - things sometimes didn't look so good but always ran like a top!
