Door / trunk close assist - opinions please

Hi Everybody,

Is this "convenience" fetaure worth fixing?

I've tried the fuse trick to no avail. Disconnecting the battery didn't help. The diagnosis from the indy was the pump needs to be replaced.

Is the trouble and exspense really worth it? I'm interested to hear everyone's opinion.

Thanks,

Adam

Up to you, man. Pumps can be had on ebay for a lot less than

from the dealership or online parts suppliers.

I would have to fix it. I'm one of those that likes everything to work.

RE: Door / trunk close assist - opinions please

I spent more time investigating the issue. The vacuum hoses appear fine and are not leaking anywhere (as far as I can tell). After checking the vacuum hoses and trying the "fuse trick" again the all four doors closed with the assist, however the tunk assisist still did not work.

Your absolutely right Brett. You helped me gain some clarity on the to fix or not to fix question. When the door close assist functioned for the first time I knew I had to find a way to fix it.

Thanks again to Brett! I spent a lot of time reading up on the subject and your posts have been very helpful. My next step will be trying to adjust the shut-off pressure of the pump.

Re: trunk - Micro sensor seems to be fine, vacuum hose appears to be solid. Is there a diaphragm on the right side of the locking mechanism that's in the trunk lid?

Thanks again,

Adam

The latch in the trunk lid has two actuators...

one fed from the closing assist pump and another fed from the central locking pump. Both must work for the trunk mechanism to be fully functional. I have a previous post explaining details of the trunk mechanism alone. You'll find it by searching by my username and "trunk" or similar.
