Brett is right. Always disconnect negative battery terminal. In addition...
Only the complete airbag unit is considered to be a spare part.
The airbag unit must not be treated with grease, solvents or other cleaning agents.
The airbag unit must not be exposed to temperatures in excess of 100°C (212°F) , not even temporarily.
The airbag unit is highly sensitive to shocks. If it is dropped from a height in excess of 50 cm (1.6 ft.) onto a hard surface it may no longer be installed. Instead it should be returned to the factory in special transport packing.
Before installing the airbag unit check that the ground cable has been disconnected from the battery, the terminal covered and the ignition key set to position "0".

RE: Advice on removing SRS Airbag Door Panel?
WHY do you want to remove it???
Be aware that you are dealing with EXPLOSIVES and that If you are unfourtunate to have one go off out-side the area it was intended to be housed in, Unpredictable results are part of the scenario..In the UK i know of two garages where techs have been injured..one quite seriously..removing airbags from cars that had been involved in collisions where the bags had not deployed..You need specialist knowledge.. and equipment, and a safe storage area...
Be carefull, be aware, and if you have any doubts.. get MB to do it for you...
