Auxiliary fans don't turn on

On my 93 300sd the auxiliary fans don't turn on
when they should. I changed the sensor, that didn't
work. When I remove the plug from the sensor the Fans
start up ,but they will only stop when I shut off the engine. My question now is,does anybody know where the aux fan relay is located?

RE: Auxiliary fans don't turn on

Forgot to add, I have a couple of those stupid mercedes repair manual on dvd's. The ones that has all makes and model up to 2002 I think. It's made for the dealers and hard and hell to understand. Sense we have the same problem, I can offer you a copy and hopefully you can figure what's wrong with the fans.

RE: Auxiliary fans don't turn on

Thanks for your responses
Ok,here it is.Allyou have to do to check whether the Sensor works or not, just unplug the connection.Because it is a failsafe feature you simulate a faulty sensor. The Fans should turn on.
If you reconnect them they should stop,if the relay is working correctly. If they don't stop,it is the relay (part#0015428219).
By the way ,I found out where it is.Behind the Fusebox
Just losen the 4 screws on the frame and lift it off
and you can see the relays. The aux fan relay is the black rectangular one.The fans are supposed to turn on at 100deg celsius (212 Fahrenheit).
My next project is a knocking injector and a faulty vacuum pump (doorlocks)

RE: Auxiliary fans don't turn on

Excellent work mr German, very gratefull for sharing with us all. I will try it on my s320. If I didn't know better, I'd say we own the same mercedes, my central lock is crap too. The pump is burnt, since it does nothing when applying power to it. My engine doesn't even seem like it's on 3 cylinder after I had washed my engine, so don't wash your engine!! Just use a tooth brush and clean the entire engine, lol. Mercedes engineered like no others, they're right about that, crappy engineering like no others!

Years later..... and my problem still exist. Wow, I can make a movie from the experience I have with my s320. It has all the requirements, sadness, anger, dispair, joy (when something is fixable), etc.....LOL.

I replaced my relay and didn't do a thing, I replace my thermostant with a 75 c and helps alot with the temp, will be replacing my sensor today to see if fans will kick in. Any body want to buy a car (cheap)?? I'll trade it for a honda or toyota.

Maybe have a look here...

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w140...89-normal.html

...but watch out for differences between Diesel and Petrol engines.

Best regards
Hubert
