85 w 90 for differential? tune up....

the manual states to use 85 w 90 but where can you fine it? they just carry 80 w 90 everywhere. anyone know what i should use. its for a 1996 s320 with 120000 miles. just changed the fuel filter, engine oil, transmission fluid & filter, now the differential fluid. found a post on here on how to change the fuel filter to be very helpful. thanks for anyone who can help...

You can use 75W-90 in colder regions, 80W-90 or 85W-90 in warmer climates. Either way you can't go wrong.

Deepbenz: The differential should have a drain plug at the bottom and a fill plug part way up the differential. Typically, one simply fills the differential until oil spills out of the fill plug. I haven't read a procedure for the W140, yet, but I would think it's just like any other car. The method for checking the oil level is to remove the fill plug and use your finger as a dip-stick to see if the oil level is up to the height of the plug.

Brett

you need 1.3 to 1.4L of lubricant, Mercedes advice to always replace the drain and fill plugs when removed from the diff. case, and use sealing compound.

This oil is to be changed within a couple of thousand miles of original new purchase. My mech stated this is most important. After this, you can change it every 100k miles. I have not done mine, but it is on my agenda, and once I figure it out, like my LSes, I'll be doing it every 30k miles.
