I am pretty new to this site since I just recently bought a 94' Renntech S-500 coupe this month. This site looks really great and has a lot of valuable information. I hope to talk to you all and exchange any information in the near future.
Well to start off.... I bought a new MB shift knob that I want to install and replace from the original one because it has several cracks. here is a pic of the console. I have already gone through the searches and don't know if the sedans and coupes have the same setup. Well my question to you guys is how do I saftly remove the knob/shaft ?
Can you tell me if this would only remove the knob itself or the knob and the metal shaft as one?
If this is the case it looks like I would have to buy a new shaft, because the new knob I was given has no metal shaft with it. Do you think I could reuse the shaft if the knob itself can be seperated?
IN 92/93 they went to a bayonet shift knob, "put in neutral push down and twist" I have tried but I will not hit it with a mallet. There is no way I want to break anything, there is enugh stuff that goes wrong. The intro to service manual says that is the way it is removed and installed, the OEM is one piece with shaft.
the rubber mallet is the easiest way to remove it and the only way i think.....i put all my force and weight on it and couldnt, with teh rubber mallet, came right out....
