need help, my s600 bounces, rear suspension probs

hello guys need help, my s600 had been bouncing a lot on small un-even lumps on the roads, so i just had my rear hydraulic shocks replaced, but to my disappointment it made the car even more bouncier, some say that i have to replace the air cells, what are these for? how many are there in a w140? are they expensive? can they be replaced DIY? need info thanks in advance

Do a search on "sphere" in the W140 forum.

Hi, visit my shop and I'll help you on that problem, its a walk on the park to fix it, those are called accumulator, sometimes you can try bleeding the air out first, and if it does not work, then you'll have to replace both left and right side. Text me ASAP, i am leaving for germany very soon.

Hydraulic struts for a 600 are approximately $500 ea, accumulators are $90 each, as my MB service rep says" shocks dont usually go bad, unless they leak, accumulators go at 60/80 K miles. Your mechanic should have tried those first, and yes you can change them yourself but be prepared for an oily situation. Tough to do on your back.

casual driving shoud not be too hard on them, but you can do damage if you drive too long, I put up with a bouncey ride quite a while, the accumulators fixed it $350

RE: need help, my s600 bounces, rear suspension probs

i did my accumulators at about 85K. i believe they are the spheres in the rear which are half filled with hydraulic fluid, then there's a wall and the other half is filled with hydrogen gas. i was told that usually the wall between the two substances gets undermined and they mingle, rendering the sphere useless. i drove it for a week or so bouncing around feeling like an idiot...hahaha.
