RE: Please help! Would a 1995 W140 amp work in a 1993?
92 and 93 were identical, 94 was a totally new radio style. The fader was deleted in the console, and the radio was one piece, I doubt the amp will work. Have you ever checked your fader connection, the amps usually fail but dont come back to life, and usually fail on one or two channels. Your rear deck speakers are a channel each (two speakers for each = 4 speakers), and each rear door is a channel, one speaker. There are two in each front door and one over the mirror. The out board speakers on the dash were only used in the CTEL (phone) application and installed if so equipped.

Thanks Peter [:)]
So I should be checking the fader connection? How would I do that? Would that cause the entire stereo to kick in and out? i had always assumed that it was the amplifier, but maybe it's not?
First it was the rear shelf speakers not working, and then it was all the speakers not working. If you turn up the volume, then it will crack and buzz, and possibly stop making sound altogether. Then, once in a while, the music will come to life all on it's own for possibly 5 seconds or so, and then cut out again.

Yup I would suspect the amp, The reason I suggested the fader is that it does affect the amp. If you are not good taking the console panel off on a pre 95 is tricky (hidden torx in the ash tray well) that you cant see). Its those little stinking capacitors that short out, I was convinced I had a bad speaker (scratchy etc)I took the front door panel apart and clipped on a speaker (sounded just as bad). I got a reman amp from the dealer and it did not fix it( and they took it back) talk about good relationship. They sent me to their "becker repair station" who repaired the tuner and gave me a reman. amp w/warranty still in the $ 400 arena. It has worked fine for the last year or two, and I can crank it up and make those "thump people" look up.

Hey Peter,
They both fixed your tuner AND gave you a remanufactured amplifier for only around $400? That seems like a pretty good deal!
Now, if your tuner was repaied and the amp replaced, did your problem lie in the tuner or the amplifier? I have always assumed that the amp is my problem, but could it just be the tuner?

I have given them MB most of my work, so I asked the parts manager to plug in a re-man amp they had in stock, it did not do the trick, so they did not charge me. They sent me to the local "becker repair facility" where they installed one of their rebuilts. It still did not sound that good so they changed some capacitors in tuner. (the parts guy told me to tell them to treat me like family. I did remove and put all the panel back in myself so it was easy to get to.
