CENTRAL LOCKING PUMP & CLOSING ASSIST PUMP INSTALL
I'm about to take delivery of each of these 2 pumps for my 92 600SEL - one in the trunk, one under the rear seat. Can anyone help with installation tips? Is it as straightforward as removing the old and plugging in the new, or is there other preparation/setting required? I'd be grateful for any help if you have undertaken this.
RE: CENTRAL LOCKING PUMP & CLOSING ASSIST PUMP INSTALL
Hi Dave,
Did you get the pumps from eBay in the end?? I've only replaced the central locking pump. Here are some pointers:
-Take a digital photo of the current installation before you start
-Use a small open ended wrench to prise the pneumatic connections from the old pump
-As you remove each connection from the old pump, connect the same fitting to the correct location on the new pump. It saves confusion later!
-There are 2 electrical connections. The smaller of the two lifts straight out. The larger one has a complex sliding mechanism which isn't at all intuitive. You need to slide the base of that connector horizontally to release.
RE: CENTRAL LOCKING PUMP & CLOSING ASSIST PUMP INSTALL
The only issue I have heard (other than buying someones defective pump) is that the newer replacement locking pump (under seat) is that you might need a fiting kit fot the hoses since the new one does not have the plate. The older one had a port for the back up rods also. To have both go bad is unusual, the culprit is usually the "close assist" the "locking, lumbar etc". does not fail that often.
Have you gone thru the fuse excercize?

Thank you gents for your input. Yes, Peter, I have been through the fuse exercise - pulling the fuse works only for a short period. Modification kit coming with ther cental locking pump. Fingers crossed! Will let you know once installed.
