Can't figure out how to read the diagram? I want to test the wire harness comming out of the dash and I am trying to test the gas gauge, mpg gauge and oil pressure gauge to determine if the cluster is bad. I ust don't know which wire to test and what reading I should get.

you need the pin assignment?

the plug connector behind the instrument cluster? (half moon)

YES BUT, IT IS NOT A HALF MOON. ITS IS A STRAIGHT PIN CONNECTOR.

Did you try to check the incoming datas via the digital millage display ? In the middle of the clock set knob you find a very small push button. When you push it while 4 or 5 seconds you convert your millage display into a test display. In the first part of the test while the engine is runing, you see the value of all incoming datas ; in a second part of the test all clock displays are set at mid and max value. It lets you know if your problem is coming from your cluster or not. If you get all datas problem is coming from displays or electronic board (my tachometer is not working I know that it's an electronic problem). You can find at www.alldatadiy.com the test procedure.

RE: WIRING DIAGRAM FOR A INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

I'm having the same problem on my 97 S420 and also could not obtain any incoming test data from the center/middle of the clock knob. Everything is totally dead including most of the idiot lights below. The light for burnt out exterior lights work, I have a bulb problem with the third brake light in the back window. Also on startup one of the red lights, I believe SRS, comes on momentarily and then cycles off. Everything else in instrument cluster is dead.

This all started while moving, I looked down while driving, noticed the speedometer was stuck on 25 mph and the tach at 2000 rpm's. All of the idiot lights were about 1/2 illuminated. I figured once I stopped and turned vehicle off everything would reset. It did not. I checked all fuses with a volt meter and all checked OK. I checked the fuses in the computer box on the passenger side and they were OK. I checked for corrosion in the main fuse box and found nothing. I also disconnected the battery for 30 minutes to allow for reset and cleaned cables and battery posts, no results. Only thing left I guess is to pull cluster. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks.

I think I am just going to send the cluster off to ProgRama to let them fix it!

I called Programa about repairing my instrument panel and was told they don't repair that panel (97 S420). Anyone else receive same reply? He indicated they worked on pre 97 panels.
