500 SEL Normal Operating Temp

Does anyone know what the normal operating temp of a '92 5.0 liter SEL engine is? I replaced my faulty aux fan switch with a value of 85 Celsius and although both the engine and aircon runs cooler (engine temp: 90 C), the aux fans never shut off, even in highway driving.

I'm guessing that if I install an aux fan switch with a value slightly higher than the engine's normal operating temp, then the aux fans won't be running all the time and will come on only when that normal temp value is slightly The downside?? Expect the engine to run hotter and the aircon less efficiently.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks Barry, the site was a great resource of information and hits my problem right on the dot. I've put it together and will test it in traffic tomorrow, where ambient temps go up to 40C in traffic.
