ASR/ABS FAULT

My '92 600SEL has the dreaded ASR/ABS fault - although with a difference. The lamps only come one after the car has been driven and the engine is at operating temperature but when lit the cruise system still works and the car still has full power! However after road testing with the afore said lights on i can state that the traction control is disabled (able to severely smoke the tyres) and the ABS does not function(Car screeches to a halt leaving thick black rubber on the road) when carrying out an emergency stop! This is another ocassion where the main dealers are unable to locate and repair the fault - so any ideas anyone?[B)]

I have the same problem vith my 92 500SEL. The ASR/ABS lights go on as son as i start driving. The ASR/ABS are not functioning. First i think i will check the ABS sensors and a fuse. Follow this link may help you... http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_X11.html.

RE: ASR/ABS FAULT

Just went through the same problem. It started with the abs/asr lights turning on sporatically, steering would become very hard, almost like no assist.

Are you able to access the error codes? Mines a 95S420 so it was equipted with the OBD1 system. It quickly showed a logged error of 4, 6 and 8 (if my memory is working). Clearing them I got error 6 returning. Check yours out.

Eventually, the ABS/ASR lights turned on as soon as the car was started up. Measured the resistance of the passenger rear abs sensor and it was way off (open). Tried removing the old abs sensor from the rear but ended up taking it to a mechanics neighbours place and had to drill out the old sensor. Once it was gone, a new one was quick to install and all problems are gone.

Good luck!

Ron.

RE: ASR/ABS FAULT

hello folks im also having slightly the same problem as you guys, i have the traction problem wherein the triangle w/ an exclamation would light up and i would feel no accelerator pedal as if the cable isnt connected, but stepping on the pedal a few times it would be ok again and then i would drive the car up to 60kph and then the light will go off and the car is ok but when i turn off the engine the traction light sensor would light up again, when i disconnected the speed sensors on the front wheels the traction wouldnt light up and i can run normal but the asr & abs indicator will now light up and i will have hard steering as if not power assisted, what should i replace? speed sensors or ASR module? i need ur help fellows :(
