S320 Short or long wheel Base Sedan

Help! I just bought a 1996 S 320---can anyone tell me how to determine if it's a long wheel base or short wheel base sedan? All i have is the owners manual and my registration paper.

Help!!

RE: S320 Short or long wheel Base Sedan

If the rear door window is same width as the front door window -> LWB

If the rear door window is visibly narrower than the front door window -> SWB

Difference in length is 4" all in front of the rear seat.

If you can transport beerboxes piled in front of your rear seat -> LWB

If the rear passenger backrest can move forward
& backward by the button on both side of the
passenger door......

That is a Long Wheel Base

If the rear passenger headrest can go up & down
by pressing a button on the front console......

That is a Long Wheel Base

Have got LWB without said optional accessories. Original/optional ccessories also depend on the market area.

Check the picture thread and you will soon learn to tell the difference.

RE: S320 Short or long wheel Base Sedan

Depending on the market, BOTH the short and long wheelbase on the W140 could be ordered with the rear electric bench seat (or the rear electric bucket seats), so that is NOT a way to determine it.

The easiest way without looking at numbers is to look at the curvature of the opening where the power window switch i set at the rear door. If the lower edge of this opening is very close the the edge of the door panel (one inch or less) it is a SWB. On the other hand, if there is a gap of about 4 or 5 inches between the bottom part of the curvature opening and the edge of the panel door, it is a LWB.
