Front headrest probem

My front passenger headrest will not move. I can push the button and i hear a clicking noise such as a solenoid would make, but no movement..also the headrest moves VERY freely up and down by hand

RE: Front headrest probem

I had the same problem as you 2 weeks ago, the solution for me was to take off the back of the seat (2 screws underneath the back). You now can see a black motor thing that's probably hanging loose. when i took of the back of the seat a silver thing fell out and that is what has to be reattatched (full opening on the upper "button" and half down, there is a rails where you have to put the motor in.) if you want i can make some pictures tomorrow and post them here.

RE: Front headrest probem

Both front headrests in my 95 S600 did not work when I got the car. I took off the covers off the seat backs, and saw that the white nylon "pinion" block to which the motor flex cable attaches had cracked on the driver side, and the "rack" had slipped past it's stop on the passenger side. I used stainles steel hose clamps to hold the cracked block together, and took apart the passenger side block to line up the rack properly again. What most people don't seem to know is that you MUST NOT MOVE THE HEADRESTS MANUALLY!!! Always use the power switch.

RE: Front headrest probem

Ok here are the pics, maybe the problem won't be the same as in your car but you can give it a try [:o)]

ok first do this in the coupe, or if it's a sedan just make the back go forward like the pic.

Now find this screw (there is one on each side)

Take of the lower end first.

When i did this, this thing fell out.

The motor was hanging loose like in the pics

Put the motor in de holes, put the thing on and push it down.

Now it will be like this.

put everything togetter and you are done (In my case [:o)])

RE: Front headrest probem

thanx for the pics!! Mine is a little different than yours...my headrest motor is actually on the outer side of the seat with a flex-cable going over to the gearbox.
After further investigation, i have found that the plastic casing around the gear and shaft has somehow broken. Would it be best to get a replacement or could I just super-glue it back together?

RE: Front headrest probem

Read the 5th post. Glue doesn't work well on this material.
