I am a proud owner of a W124 300E 2.8 M104 engine.
I amm looking for buyng a S320 s420/430 or s500.Is there any good years for those cars? How is S320 it is somewhat underpower?,because I prefer s320 because of the price and also because I know the engine from my e300.
The best year is probably 99 (then last year), the car was introduced in 92 and MB was still very quality concious it was a technical complexity. There were issues that lasted thru and beyond 95, AC, BOSE, locking assist, finding one that has the work done could result in a good car. It is (was a flagship) parts are expensive and there was very little the casual wrench twister could do ince most was memory and error codes stored in the computer. I have a 92 and budget $1000/year and it is on track>
make sure if used ---- u have service records .. like if its more than 90k, if the service (90k) has been done like coils and head gasket ,, as this could save u lots of $ if not .... do it or else major repair needs to be done
S320 not underpowered one bit! It thinks its a V8! Make sure to get a warranty. My dads paid for itself by far! Make sure to check the AC unit, head gasket, close assist system. These are all very common problems (and not cheap ones either).
