Is this W140 suppose to have a digital odometer?
I know that the W140 had the mechanical odometer until some point I believe it was 94 or 95 and then they swapped to the "digital display". Am I correct on this? I saw a car on ebay with ubber low miles, take a look at the dashboard... Was it suppose to have a digi display? I asked the owner and he said he'll look into it, guess he hates me now.
RE: Is this W140 suppose to have a digital odometer?
My 1997 S320 has a digital odometer..Maybe is standard on a 1992/1991 400SE ,500SEl ,600SEL but not on the 300SEL during that time..I really dunno...and not sure..........
So it appears that the 400 series had analog even in 1993. So the 1992 one you showed may have had the instrument cluster swapped to the newer digital one.
RE: Is this W140 suppose to have a digital odometer?
The analog odometer was standard on W140s from the start of production late of 1990 to late 1993. In some markets the analog odometer was still installed on 1994 models.
By 1995 onwards the switch to digital odometers was complete and standarized.
The 1992 400SE you refer to at e-bay has definitely a post factory installed digital odometer, done at some time in its life cycle, and I CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE you that digital odometer started its life from "0", disregarding the previous mileage on the analog odometer.
So, to the 50k+ mileage shown on that odometer, I will add xxx miles from the previous analog odometer.
ABSOLUTELY NO W140s previous of late 1993 were fitted with digital odometers, regardless of what the owner tells you or wants you to believe.
