Here is a list of problems my dad has had so far on his car:
-Head Gasket (dealership knew at time of sale refused to fix)
-Front right wheel Bushing
-Close assist latch adjustment (dealers attempt at fixing trunk close mechanism)
-Close assist pump replacement (dealer failed to replace before sale)
-A/C regulator/ fan replacement (dealership failed to repair before sale)
-Sunroof gasket "decomposed" and fell apart (dealership failed to repair before sale)
-Taillight replacement
-Key failure
Is this stuff normal?!
Oh and BTW, NEVER buy a car from Integrated Automotive Sales (IAS) in Easton, PA. They sold us a lemon of a car and refused to fix our problems. WE finally took the car to a REAL MB dealership and they fixed us right up!

this is a very important messsage. never give your money to anyone, car dealer or otherwise until after they have delivered a satisfactory product. As the saying goes, "a verbal promise isn't worth the paper it's written on"

BECAUSE SIZE REALY DOES MATTER, W140
Sorry to hear of your issues, but it seems that many of these would have been
noted by having a reputable shop do a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Buyer beware. Once you've signed the paperwork for an "as is" sell and handed your money over, the seller has zero obligation.
You're unclear as to whether the dealer knew of the problems, whether you asked about these issues, or whether the seller simply lied about them to you before sale so it's difficult to sympathize with you completely.
I recently bought my W140 sight unseen from a Florida used car dealer. I spoke several times with the salesman and also spoke with the mechanic that the salesman said did an inspection on the car. They reported several issues with the car. When I received the car, I discovered several more issues. After going back and forth with the seller, they cut me a $500 check. I would have liked a lot more, but essentially I had no leverage. I bought the car as is, and I considered myself a satisfied customer to have at least gotten some compensation. In the end, they seemed like reputable people running a good business, and importantly, I felt like I got a decent price.
It doesn't sound like your seller wants to run a good business, so bad advertising is your best weapon.
You didn't mention what year or model. To answer your question.
Most, not all, 140's are problem prone. Read this forum and you will get the feel of the most common problems like AC, closing assist, electrical, etc. As expected, the repairs can be co$tly. Most owners here love their cars and are complacent with most of the repairs attempting to fix them on their own and saving $$$. You just have to ask yourself at what price do you want to drive this fine auto? Come up with an annual budget you would be willing to spend to continue driving the car and if you ever reach your limit, unload it. That's the best advice I can offer.

RE: Car Problems
Job well done in your explaination loveit_hateit! By the way I like your titled. Totally corresponds to the feeling of most W140 owners... But I seem to tilt more to the love_it side [:)]
