I was riding in the back of my dad's 1993 300SE and noticed that there is no sound coming out of the 4 speakers in the rear shelf. I put the fader to the rear and could hear music coming out of the rear doors, but not the rear shelf.
Does this mean the BOSE amp has lost the channels for the rear deck? [:(]
I hope not . . . the car only has 38,000 miles on it . . . Or maybe it is just a fuse or something?
i dont think its a fuse, then the other speakers must be dead too...
i know this isnt maybe the best way to sheck it out, but can u connect the rear shelft speakers to another channel ? then u know a little more
What's funny is that I searched the forums and couldn't find anyone else who has had the same problem. Usually, when the amp goes, it makes a hissing sound (from what I read).
I hope the amplifier channels are labelled in the trunk, because I believe it has 7 channels and it might be hard to figure out which channel(s) is for the rear shelf.
Just talked to my Dad today, and supposedly the radio quit now and hisses or cracks or something. Sounds like hen I was in the car last, the amp was on it's last legs [:(]
Dran, darn, darn! Now the infamous amp problem by the sounds of it [:(]
Usually the whole amp does not go at once, it is a seven channel amp. If one speaker starts to act up I would definately suspect the amp. There is always the tuner or the control unit in the dash, what happens with a cassette?
The rear speakers are not the same volume as the side (two two-ohm speakers in parralell) they are there mostly for "bass" in a MB you dont want them pounding your ears. I cranked mine up and you can feel the cones move when your hand is over them.
You can reverse the channels, by switching the wires from the tuner to the amp. It is easy the are both identical and plug in to the tuner. There is nothing you can do to the amp harness it is a big locking plug
Well, my Mom really sucks at explaining things . . . she just said that the speakers have "popped" on occasion (loud pop) but she assumed it was just the radio reception. Then I noticed the rear speakers not working. And now there is the crackling sound all of the time (although my mom does not know whether or not music is still playing).
It really sounds to me like the amp problem that other people have had on the board [:(] I am guessing that some of the channels still work, but the crackling sound caused my mom to turn the stereo off right away.
I'm going to get my parents to try a cassette and see how that goes.
By the way, do you or anyone else know whether or not the amplifier from a 1993 300E would be the exact same as the amp from a 1993 300SE? I think they have the same audio systems . . .
The 300E has ID#124 820 17 89 but I don't have my Dad's 1993 300SE available to check the amp to see if it has the same number.
I had my Bose 7 Channel Amp in my 92 400se serviced by http://www.soundrepair.com/html/vehicle.htm in Florida. It's very easy to remove and send to their location. The company specializes in repairing this model amp. Mine works great now. The repair cost me $440 to have the unit.
