I have owned a 1995 C220 for a while now. However, I think its time to move up to something a bit bigger. I am looking around at a few used S-classes.
What do you guys/gals think is better, a 1992 500SEL(white), a 1996 S320 (gold), or a 1993 300(silver). Any comments would be very appreciated. Please take personal color preference into consideration aswell as overall vehicle performance/luxury/etc.
I think the Gold S class is the best choice .S320 is enough .But if you do not worry the fuel economy then go for the 500SEL.The S320 is confortable enough and fuel economy is ok..But the colour , i rather dark colours like dark blue, black, obsidian black.
The 92 is the one that has better wood, more standard options and I think is longer. The other side of the coin it was the first year of production, I have a 92 and it had some post warranty issues (AC $4k very common) but i dont think a lot of this was resolved till much later 98 or so. I would check the service records for repairs to see if they had been done (closing assist, Bose amp, window regulators, front end bushings)

I would go with the newest car the 1996. You are not going to notice a significant difference in power, the 96 S320 has a 5 speed auto versus the 4 speed of the 500sel. With tdhe s320 you gain in fuel economy, cheeper repairs, and double paned windows, a realy decadent feature, not to mention self closing doors. BTW is the car a very gold?, my S320 is smoke silver which is occasionaly mistaken for a light gold.

Forget the colors, (I know that's hard to do, though) and look at the YEARS. Go for the '96, condition being consistent with the others, that is. It's a big ball of wax to take in all considerations, but mainly, try to get a later year. '98 is even better!

I would go with a late (97 or 98) W140 if you like the looks of it. I would definitely choose a late W126 over an early W140. I don't know much about W220's. Obviously color is important to you. However, I would not base my decision on color. Would you consider a W210 E class? A 2000 E320 would be a save deal as far as I know.

Get the latest model year possible and watch out for ac problems, close-assist motor/system problems, and head gasket leaks (with S320). S320 is certainly enough power. It feels like a V8 and gets up and goes very nicely.
