You are overdoing it a bit buddy. No reason to check daily, if your engine is suffering that great an oil loss to be topped up daily it has a significant problem.

Secondly there is no need to keep it right up to the full mark on the dip stick. Engines differ in the level at which they equalise the oil level, some are stable at full, others at 3/4 full, or 1/2 full indicated on the dip stick. The dip stick only tells you that you are down 1/4 or 1/2 a litre, no need to stress, you still have 9 1/2 liters left.

Remember the add mark is there to tell you when to add, so kick back and relax till then.

RE: how to check engine oil level and tranny ?

thanks barry, i do the check up every morning on my 1985 300SD and my '85 300D-T, those are really old cars just to make sure, but now that u told me i'l take it easy and just do the checking once a week, As for my S600, i check it once a week, it doesnt show any sign of oil lose, i envy ur car, before i got my S600, i was looking for an s320 but it wasnt available in the shops here, ur car is easier to maintain and of course the mpg's are really good, mine's got 12mpg only its really a thirsty car, i hjav e to take it easy on the gas pedal or else i'l just get 10 or even 9mpg,
