transmission rebuild

Hi all,

My transmission does not need a rebuild now, but my milage is getting up there (135k miles 93 S500), and eventually it will begin to slip. Although my tranny fluid is still nice & red after 15k miles, I have begun the preventive habit of draining the tranny fluid (2~3L) everytime I do an oil change (3~4k miles), and topping up 2~3L of fresh Dexron III.

Anticipating the inevitable, I have done a bit of research and apparently we have the same tranny as the one used in Porsche 928, and many have made reference to certain solenoid that may need replacement as opposed to a complete tranny overhaul

Anyone with experience, or anyone who has gone through this rebuild in the past is welcome to post as far as your experiences with the 4 spd vacuum controlled tranny on our cars.

I am sure it's not the whole transmission that disintegrates after the car reaches high milage, most likely its a few little solenoids and seals here & there (assuming clutches are in good shape), so tell me... what is it that fails?

This would make a useful FAQ, reference guide for all of us at some point.

Thanks
