The timing chain broke - had to send heads to machine shop and had 6 valves replaced.
Replaced two of the cam sprockets and also drive shaft sprocket - the rails were good,
and replaced the tensioner, in fact the tensioner does not want to go in all the way.
For some reason the chain is too tight after installing the tensioner - we thought that the
chain may be bunching up in front of, or in back of the crank - took off the pan and inspected visually.
Have tried two new factory chains and get the same results. The engine starts and runs fine but will chew
the sprockets in a short time due to tight chain.
Mercedes tech support says that this problem is unique and has not occured to others.
Has anyone seen this problem installing a new chain? Original chain broke at 53k. Thanks for any input.
