shift knob removal

How do I remove the shifter knob on a 1993 600 SEL
I bought a new on it is all one piece knob and shaft

I have read all the posts but nothing works. I have pushed down with all my weight and even hit it with a dead blow hammer. it just won't budge

i have a 95 s320 and i think it might be the same way......... use a rubber mallet and hit it down and twist it to the left at the same time...... after a couple hits, it should come right off...

Great instructions, it was still stiff pulling it off but the new one went on like a charm

Well you wouldent want it to come off in your hand whist driving would you, It did to me- once with a series 2 land rover, in second gear with no gear stick took hours to get back home

No the damm thing came outof the gearbox and wouldnot go back in.
