i have a question for anyone that can help....the other day i was driving to upstate ny and on the way there, my 95 s320 started smoking under the car and also by the firewall....it smelled like something was burning....it only did this for a couple minutes, after i pulled over, it stopped....when we looked at the ground, there was water from the AC, but there was also some spots of red liquid, made us think of the tranny fluid....but we checked all fluids and everything is in tip top shape...at its max and color and consistency all look good....can anyone shed some light and info on this please...
Sound dangerous and the prudent thing to do is to bring it into a shop...ideally an MB mechanic.
You don't want to get an incorrect diagnostic in this forum and subsequently prescribe the wrong solution...leading to total failure of your car while going at warp speed..sending you off that clift that drops 1000 feet below....
ok..too many movies...but I hope you get my point.

Your trans is probably over full. It cannot be over the top line. When really hot, it will come out of the vent. at normal operating temp I like to see it land in the center of the marks. this way when it does get hot it has "room to grow". Hope this helps...

RE: undercarriage smoke
Yes, the tranny fluid was probably over the maximum line on the dip stick. This hasnt't happened to me on my W140 but it has on my W124. After getting off the highway ramp I noticed some smoke and later found out the "excess" tranny oil was coming out of the tranny vent and somehow got on the hot exhaust pipe thus causing the smoke. So hopefully you just "overfilled" your tranny fluid [:D]
but i havent done the change on my tranny fluid since i got the car and it has never done this to me before or after that this one time....at the time i was going 80 mph, for a constant 1 and 20 minutes when it did it.....one more question...if the fluid was overfilled, wouldnt it do the problem all the time??? or only when it gets hot???
had this on my s420. My problem was a leaking power steering joint. The fluid gradually building up over time in the engine tray. As the liquid accumulated, with the air currents under the car, the liquid gradually got forced up onto the exhaust system.
Very odd experience. At traffic lights I was suddenly engulfed in billows of smoke.
Fortunately, once i was able to diagnose problem, cure was simple. hope this might help.
4 bolts remove engine tray. 3 minute job. If there is a laek you will see taht build up that i have been talking about,.
Iisolated it by using a good engine degreaser.
hope this helps
