Last sunday made a 1368 km tour Holland-Belgium-France (west->east)-Luxembourg-Germany-Holland. On A26, played around a bit with an UK registered Ferrari F355 gts. We hit 190kmh now and then, but only briefly. My cruise control was at 160 kmh. He was bit more carefull, so finally he disappeared behind me. Normally, my 177HP diesel is no match of course. By coincidence, French fuelprices included!!!
Notice the beauty of the A4 Motorway. The stain in the pic is from an unfortunate, mis-calulating bird hitting my windscreen...
Then, half an hour later... panic! Four lamps lit simultaneously: ASR/BAS, ABS, brakelining and parking!! Speedo and RPM dropped to zero, no more engine power!! At a perfect moment: a large highway intersection!! 500 km from home!! After one minute of "Can-bus deliberation" only the ASR/BAS remained on (photo), and the car drove on. After refuelling in Luxumburg with engine restart, also ASR/BAS lamp went out. No further problems going home. All ok now, I hope! Perhaps all caused by the infamous brake-light switch, mentioned on the forum? It is the first time of any electronic "failure" on my car.
I am not sure what ETS means; on my car there is no light with inscription "ETS".
In my car, as described, the BAS/ASR light continued burning. It's an abbreviation from the following German technical expressions:
BAS means: Brems-Assistent (english: brake-assistant)
BAS applies maximum braking pressure instantly, when it detects the brake pedal is pressed down at high speed.
ASR means: Anti-Schlupf-Regelung (english: anti-skid-adjustment?)
ASR detects when a wheel is about to start spinning, then the brake of that wheel is applied, and engine torque reduced.
Also exists (more expensive, not on my car, today standard on all MB's): ESP
ESP means: elektronisches-Stabilitäts-Programm (english: electronic stability program)
ESP corrects under/oversteering of the car
How's the vacation going so far?, How are the roads ect... hope to hear from you upon your return. I'm at the follow e-mail tipicrib@yahoo.com take care.
