Hey there fellow Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts. Nice pics dude ( S-300TD). Well, as far as engine noise on the S600/600SEL, I don't seem to notice any. It gives out a quite hum at high speeds. I own a 1992 600SEL and try to go the max speed limit allowed, sometimes over when there are no cameras and the lanes are empty. The fastest I have gone is around 200 or 210 km/h. The problem is that there really isn't anything in my country like a true highway or autobahn and the people drive like crazy and don't know how to drive at all, so it's not realyl safe to drive fast or over the speed limit. Max speed limit here is 120 km/h on highways and they got lots of cameras around. Gas here costs 65 fils/litre for super grade fuel. They have a new type that came out for 90 fils/liter. To translate that to other currencies:
SUPER:
USD (US Dollar) = $0.220544
Euro = 0.184387
GBP (UK POUND) = 0.124087
SUPER SUPER:
USD = $0.305388
EURO = 0.255298
GBP (UK POUND) = 0.171803
*All prices are per liter
I have four questions:
01. Is the W140 chasis speed limited? If so, what is it limited to? Can the W140's go over 260 km/h?
02. I have a problem with my transmission. When I get to around 45 km/h and it wants to shift up, it goes all the way to 2,000 RPM then goes back down quickly. I think the transmission needs to be repaired since it's not shifting properly. Any ideas how much this could cost? It's the 4-speed auto. Thanks.
03. S-300TD, isn't the coolant temperature too high for that type of weather? because 17.5 degrees Celsius seems like nice, cool weather. What is the ideal temperature? My temperature goes to like about the same position, just a bit higher in 39+ degrees Celsius weather.
04. I have noticed on the front top part of my engine evaporated oil, what does this mean and what si the cause? Does anyone have something like a sort of workshop manual or something of the sort in any format for the 600SEL cars?
cheerio chums,
Yoseph

The Vmax of your car is 293 km/hour if you get the limiter removed. It is limited to around 255 from factory. I found some website in Germany that sells "chips" to remove this but lost it again. If anyone knows how to remove the Vmax I'd like to know to.

Oh yeah, I heard that too...that there is a limiter on these car. But I don't think it'll help this fellow. He's in Kuwait and he said that the roads are such that exceeding much over 200 KM could be dangerous (stated above)...so, getting it removed for him would be a moot point.
But, Hell...I could use the mod. It's in the plan to someday order a MB from the factory, used it in Europe and ship it back here after we are done...Now, I don't want any dame cars passing me on the autobaun because of a limiter.

The limiter is written into the EPROM of your ECU, these are different for each model and engine. It is possible to copy the information and re-map your engines performance, and remove the part that tells the management system to go no further than 6.5 -7k revs in top
I know that it can be done, but I have as yet not had the time or the inclination to attempt it.. You are already way over terminal velocity at 250kmph what speed do you want to hit the tree at ?? does an extra 40 kph really matter ???

Hallo,
I feel so bad. I hurt my baby Benz :( ... I drove on it without any automatic transmission fluid. It's all my fault for not checking up on my baby. This is my first car, so I wasn't sure what was wrong with it. After taking it to a mechanic and upon checking, there was no fluid! DOOOHHH! Promptly filled it with ATF. After a while, noticed I that it "skipping" when changing gears. Checked the fluid thing at my house and noticed it was EMPTY! It all leaked out again! So I was like, whats going on here? I took it to a mechanic and he put it up on the jack. He told me there was a hose for the transmission that was old and cracked up. He changed it and filled the car with fluid. He showed me the hose, and it was as hard as stone and it broke into small pieces. I was crying, for my Benz had been injured. It went straight to my heart. Now I have to spend $600+ to repair it's transmission. ALL BECAUSE OF MY INABILITY TO RECOGNIZE MY BABY'S SIGNS THAT IT WASN'T ALL RIGHT! I should have taken it to a mechanic straight away.
A mechanic told me it would cost around $660 to repair my transmission and it comes with a 4 month warranty. I took it to the MB dealership, and their prices we're like totally out of this world. They told me I'd have to pay $150 to check everything on the car, then $120 for something I forgot, and $360 just to remove the transmission + the repairs to the damage (first have to remove the transmission to diagnose it and calculate price of parts). I was like, WHATEVER! not sure what to do ... haven't repaired it yet :(
