Where to get new floor mat set?

Has anyone purchased a new carpet floor mat set for their W140? Is there a place to get a cheap, but nice, aftermarket set that is made specifically for the W140?

I checked with the dealer and their set runs for $180.00CAN . . . I would prefer something cheaper.

Thanks!
Bryan

RE: Where to get new floor mat set?

A long time ago, Rainmaker posted about a dealership called Caliber Motors in California. He wrote the following:

"I get most of my Mercedes stuff from Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills California. They seem to be the only dealership who gives wholesale discount to the general public (they give 25% discount off the listed prices). The other dealerships seem to not give a penny of discount unless you have a company setup with a tax code."

So, today I emailed Calbier and this is what I found:
- Price of floor mat set at local dealer: $126.00US
- Price of floor mat set at Caliber Motors: $ 78.00US

The same mat set is 38% cheaper at Caliber Motors than at my local dealer! I couldn't believe the price difference! Also, not only are they cheper, but they respond to you emails within less than 10 minutes! Amazing [:)]

So, I think I am going to order the mat set from Caliber, and I'll probably end up ordering a serpentine belt as well. Even with shipping to Ontario, Canada, it is still going to come out way cheaper in the end!

The moral: Check the price at Caliber Motors before buying an OEM part at your dealer

And no, I am not affiliated with Caliber Motors in any way [;)]
I wish they were located in Canada so that I could bring my car there for service . . .

The website is as follows:
www.calibermotors.com

Bryan

RE: New Floor Mats?

Hey Bryan,

I'm from Canada too (Vancouver)... I also noticed its sometimes harder to find good prices on parts. I work in southern California now (OC) so Caliber is within driving distance!

I got brandnew floor mats too. It makes such a visual difference -- The car looks almost brand new! My original mats were grey, so they always seemed discoloured even after shampooing. I changed to Black mats, it doesn't stain, and creates a nice contrast to my grey interior.

I saw on Ebay, you can get new W140 floormats starting at $35 !. They are aftermarket though.

RE: New Floor Mats?

Hey Rainmaker,

Yeah, I have seen those aftermarket mats on Ebay as well. Yeah, they are only $35.00US, (roughly $48.30CAN), but if you look at the shipping, that person wants a whopping $35.00US just to ship to Canada! That is just ridiculous! So, off of the seller, the absolute cheapest that a Canadian could buy them fo is $70.00US (roughly $97.00CAN). The price of OEM mats from Caliber is $78.00US plus about $12.00US shipping. Thus, for just an additional $20.00US, you get the real OEM mats from the dealer. I think that is a better deal.

I still have the OEM car mats in my 12-year-old Lexus, and they still look like brand new! My parents bought some fairly expensive mats at Canadian Tire and they were destroyed in less than a year. I think there can be a big quality difference betwen the original OEM and some cheap aftermarket stuff.

The conclusion: Go with the OEM mats . . . they're probably worth it [8D]

Regards,
Bryan

I got an excellent set of "original" floor mats from PerformanceProducts.com Try them, they are nice, efficient and NOT to expensive.

I checked out the site, and their mats are $70.00US for a pair. That is even more moeny than going straight to the dealer, and they aren't made by Mercedes . . .

How do you figure that this is a bargain?

Bryan

RE: Where to get new floor mat set?

Guys. Get the mats where you want, But two things: Make sure you don't buy the sponge backed mats... And, make sure to specify if you have a LWB. The sponge mats deteriorate and leave nasty crumbs on your carpet, and if you get the regular size rear mats for a LWB, you'll have to send them back.

RE: Where to get new floor mat set?

Good point Pewhipadus . . . I hae the SWB, but I never thought of specifying that when making my order. I will be sure to do so.

The OEM floor mats should be sponge backed, are they?

Also, your opinion on something. . . these floor mats are going to be a Father's Day present for my Dad. It is a Tan car on Black interior. I really want to get the Black floor mats to match the interior, but my Mom thinks that is too dark and wants Grey floor mats instead. I told her she is out of her mind, and knows nothing about what a car should look like [:)]

Does anyone agree with my Mom that we should get grey mats instead of black?

Regards,
Bryan

RE: Where to get new floor mat set?

Hi Bryan,

I think grey mats in a black interior car might look odd. I did the reverse though , black mats with a grey interior.

Also, the grey mats don't last so long. I shampoo my grey mats a few times already, but they always seemed to be discoloured slightly "brownish" in the middle.

Cheers

That's a good point Rainmaker . . . I am definitely going with the black. I don't care what my Mom says [:)]

I agree with you . . . I think Black on Grey would look good, but Grey on Black just doesn't seem righ to me . . .

Going with the black!

Regards,
Bryan
