Passing 500,000 km at 216 km/h.... cool sequence!!
Today luckily managed to pass the 500,000 km mark (310,686 miles) at full throttle & top speed (reading 134 mph with 177 HP diesel engine), and also picture it! Thanks to a good idea from Benzworld member jzaroh (posted 1/17/2004). Especially detoured over Germany to make it happen! Was at the A31 in north-west Germany, between junctions Borken and Reken.
First owner drove my car 346,658 km in 4 years; I took it the other 154,450 km in precisely 2 years, 4 months.

Eh, Bryan... took them all myself! For the best quality, of course [8D]... My camera is a Sony F828, so I didn't loose all too much of the overview [8)]... and I practised a little at lower speeds... all in all it was far less dangerous then it looks... at least to me!

Jean Paul what you have here is art man.
Great.
Doing 216 Km/h and the temperature is just about 95.C.
That is something.
I have some question during does your temp stay's like this only during acceleration(and fast driving)?
And after 500.000 Km's the car hasn't had any problems at all?
RE: Passing 500,000 km at 216 km/h.... cool sequence!!
Engine coolant temperature is a more or less a linear function to the environment temperature. Few weeks ago, at 25-28 degC in Italy, I noticed that at a constant speed, coolant temp changed with the same amount of degrees as the outside temperature.
On W140´s from about 1996, if you press the `rest` button on the climate control for 8 seconds, a `secret` onboard computer appears, where you can read coolant and refigerant temperature, voltage, true speed and rpm.
With that instrument I read 100-104 degrees coolant temp while doing 180 km/h at 25-28 degrees outside temperature. For me 105 is the limit, I won't load my car beyond such temperatures.
My car never gave up, but the fact nothing will break is a fairy tale of course.
Briefly, the following major items were replaced:
up to 350.000: only brake pads & discs
350.000km: Water-pump
400.000km: Engine timing advancer (engine smokey)
430.000km: Gearbox, blower motor
450.000km: airconditioning-compressor
Furthermore, the car is meticulously maintained, according to service interval indicator and MB instructions. Not really a bargain, but the return value is very satisfactory!
