Looking for Statistic on 1993 - 400 SEL sold in America.
I just bought my wife a 400 SEL for mother's day.
I was previously looking at the 1992 - 400SE. In my research I found out only 5026 of the 400SE were sold in America (at lease that was the claim on one of the other news groups). Now, if that was true then that'll make the 400SE a rare piece of item in time. I think that it will be a good collector piece. Unfortunately, the one I was looking at was not in the condition that I wanted.
I eventually did find a great 1993 400 SEL. Does any body know if the 1993 400 SEL is as rare as the 400SE?
RE: Looking for Statistic on 1993 - 400 SEL sold in America.
9522 400 SEs were made in all and only 6019 400 SELs were made in all. So the fact is you actually bought the more rare car. In my opinion both these cars are both scarce to see on the road since both were available for one year only in the U.S.- 1992 for the 400 SE and 1993 for the 400 SEL. In 1994 the car transformed into the S420, same car, same engine, different badge. The 420s were all long wheelbase only in the states, so that 400 SE you passed up was one of the very last V8 short wheelbase S-class cars available in the U.S. since the w126 380 SE of 1984-85.
