Hi. New to the forum. Great Site. My wife talked me into a 1995 S320 S-Class LWB. I’ve always had Jaguars. She met me in the 1966 XJ12C. We went to see a 2001 Vanden Plas… She got her way. All these years, didn’t know what I was missing by owning one. Folks are amazed it’s a ’95. Can be put up against any new car for quietness, presence, and yes… for the weight, power, and economy. (She won’t let me have an S500) Finally:
1. The ETS and ABS lights come on intermittently and knock off the Cruise Control. Turn off the car, restart, and lights will be off until, maybe, I get off the brake after a stop, or turning and there’s the Christmas tree. Only problem with car.
2. Every car I’ve had I’ve purchased the Service Manual, even the 1959 Jaguar MkIX, two manuals. Are these guys at Benz planning the takeover of the world? Ask about a manual, people cringe and start goose-stepping away from you.
3. Had the car two (2) yes, two days and come out to see it keyed from stem to stern. Hello! It’s a ’95! What does marquee say to people, “Yes, I’m an old dog, but I’m the biggest dog on the block. Never had this happen, even with brand new Jaguars.
4. We considered buying a newer S-Class, but what happened to the body style and interior elegance? I don’t want a Lexus.

Thank you Benzboy (like the name) I've been searching all the sites. Read it could be magnitized dust picked up by driving. Would you (anyone) know the difficulty level of cleaning or changing sensors or control box without a manual?
Thank you, Benzdoc. (516? Just moved from Elmont to Florida) Because of your advise, did a search on this site and found, TIMF's "Brake Light Switch Fix." It's under the W163 M-Class forum, but very close, if not exactly as the W140 Brake Switch instructions. Anyone having this (As I come to find out) common problem should visit his well written instructions, with photos. We Mercedes owners should feel lucky to have one of the best single marquee sites around. Thanks Benzdoc & TIMF
Hi. Steph. I was checking this and other sites for weeks. I just did the work on Sunday the 16th.
I'll walk you through it, if I may.
Look above the gas pedal, there's a platic nut you can remove (by hand) by twisting and pulling, at the same time. (counterclockwise)
Above, the cover is held by four screws. Remove and work the cover out of the car.
Follow the brake pedal up, you'll see the brake switch.
On the switch, to the right, there's a plastic tab.
Press in the tab and turn the switch clockwise.
Remove two the two sets of plugs, with two wires each, and install on the new switch. $18.65 at dealer.
Align the new switch, turn counterclockwise until it clicks in place... It helped me to hold the brake pedal in with my right hand and twist the switch with my left.
Please.... Do not take the old switch apart... You'll be pissed as to the dingy quality. If It was in a Kia, etc., I would understand.
I have driven the car everyday, the lights have not come on. As Benzdoc said, "Such a complicated problem, such an easy fix. Oh. I didn't add the photos because you won't need them. You'll see!

Got the same problem with my ML320 . Workshop has changed the ETS Switch . Problem has been solved .
I didn't face it with mine S320 Yet and hope Not.
Almost sound like sensors OR Fault in switch.
