RE: what oil brand /weight, and oil filter does everyone use
[:)]
The weight of oil you use depends on the temperature of the place the car is to be used. At -70 degrees in Alaska you would use a lighter oil than at +140 degrees in Saudi Arabia. As a general rule there is no reason to go with any weight above 30, this takes in all but the most extreme conditions, such as in Indianapolos 500.
I am using "Dino" oil now but will go with Mobil 1 at the next oil change. It is reputed to increase fuel efficiency.

Well I can't speak for your engine but I had a 190E that from 180,000km till I wrote it of at 720'000km ran on Mobil One changed every 5000km. This was the original engine and had never been overhauled in my mind Mobil One is expensive yes but the best things usally are.

I like Mobile 1 oil also.

Great site. It has a program to help you decide which oil is right for your car and driving environment.
BTW: you need to ensure that your car is not leaking oil or have worn seals. Synthetic oil is thinner than Dinosaur oil (aka. Crude oil / Regular oil). If you have loose seals and using synthetic oil, it may start leaking...as the new thinner oil does not seal as well as the thicker oil. Therefore, Dinosaur oil tend to keeps loose seals from leaking better than synthetic oil.
Also, keep to your regular oil change schedule (like the fellow with the 720,000KM 190E...great hearing those kind of stories). It's well known that synthetic oil does not break down like dinosaur oil, so it will keep working well beyond the equalivent dinosaur oil. The quick thinker say, "Great...I can run my car twice or three times as long on synthetic oil and save money on oil changes." That would be true, however, the oil filter will be completely plugged by then and your engine life will probably be shorten.
