You're wasting your time

Why spend all your time and money with a "Wanabee"
just go out and by an 8 or better yet a 12. If you couldn't afford the real thing in the first place it will cost you a hell of a lot more to make these goofy conversions you are dreaming about. Plus after you have done that stuff the car will have $0.00 Value.

Sell your entry level and join the real world.

RE: You're wasting your time

I agree with you, although maybe the person converting their car has a special car, maybe a custom paint scheme, it was in a movie, or whatever. If you're the kind of person who can get a W140, you have a high chance of being able to afford another. I also don't really understand the 6 cylinder W140's, if you are a greenie its not the car for you anyway, and if you're rich and want to prove it, whats a bit of extra gas money?

I agreed with you, with the first half of the rant.

You went a bit far, later [:0]. I dont understand who created the real world and according to what standards. The American mentality is "bigger is better" however, this does not suite many. My car is a weekend ride. Its not touched during weekdays. I drive it around town, meeting friends, or just simple cruise on the highway listening to Mozart. The car drives perfect. We dont even have mountains, so no worry to drag a 2 ton car. Neither do i rice race her. To do your homework, Mercedes is a pioneer in I6 engines.

RE: You're wasting your time

I agree ///S320. Without any intention to offend anyones mentality in this forum, I personally would like to add that I have had nothing but great experiences with the Mercedes I6 engines. Been around them in 124's 123's 140's and itis one of the engines that Mercedes Has truly mastered. Ofcourse there will always be preferences as to more horsepower, speed etc, lets not bash the good old 320's and 300's. I know plenty of people with sufficient funds to go out and buy 5 brand new 600's, yet rather drive away with a 320, (now a days on this side of the pond the only thing inferior to the 500 and 600 is the 430) or a 430 as opposed to a big V8 or 12. Some prefer practicality over bragging rights. Atleast today the gap between the S's has narrowed to strictly between the 430 500 and 600. I heard somewhere that they will be reintroducing the I6 in the near future, but now as a 3.5 as opposed to the 3.2, and badging it as the S350. The engine is already available in other classes, like the ML350.

RE: You're wasting your time

I am sorry if any of you took my comments the wrong way.

I have No problem what so ever with the 6 cylinder engines they are fantastic little work horses. I do however have a problem with the people who want to turn them into 8s and 12s or chip and modify them to ridiculous levels. Be happy with what you have, let's face it this board has drifted from the serious owners and enthusiasts to a more wishful posing type forum.

Yes, I agree all are welcome, but now it's a bit more difficult sifting through some of the fluff.

Just my opinion.

No worries bro. I do agree with you that turning an I6 into a V8 or V12 is not a very smart idea. Off course i do wish that i had a V12 S600 (sometimes)[:D]

Keep Benzing!

RE: You're wasting your time

same here man...I see what your saying about the wishful posing, and I agree, if you got a 6 then show the 320, dont try to front by badging with a 500 or 600 or try to squeeze so much juice out of your 6 that youve taken away the true german engeneering which is what they are notorious for anyway.....otherwise happy motoring bro, and helz yea if I could get a 600 on an open patch of road on the I 15 on the way to Vegas, ID OPEN IT UP and let it purr.

RE: You're wasting your time

Yup I agree too be happy with what you have. I nearly bought a 1997 728i, but wasnt happy with an lack of history, but have no regrets over buying the S500 LWB. I just loooooooovvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeee V8's. I had a pair of Range Rover LSE's and a W126 560 SEL all V8. Good balance between the economy of the 6 and the performance and complexity of the 12. You know when you sucked in too far when you keep wishing for the 12, but I recognise that S500 is a formidable tool. I'm not loaded by any stretch, so not too sure about assumption that all S drivers are loaded with cash ( I wish, but it aint so ! )
