the only advice i can offer is to be careful with the sensor part.
i had a problem that mine didnt act right - even after re-setting them. turned out the sensor had been put back on a turn or so out. cure was to let motor free - spin until it timed out, letting the contrller know it was lost. then re-set.
[:)] I'm new to Benzworld and am delighted to have found the site. I've owned my S420 for about 2 years, an eBay purchase that has been a delight! At MBCA I took home an award at Starfest 2002 in Indianapolis in the Concorse showing.
Just before the 2002 Starfest trip, my better half put all the windows down to the bottom when she parked the car on a hot Tulsa July day. Well...the right rear window would not begin to come up! I went to my local Mercedes dealer, Jackie Cooper Imports, and purchased a new window lift mechanism for about $82.00. I got home and could not figure out how to get the inner door panel off. I went back to the dealer for a quick course in panel removal. What I learned was that a putty knife carefully slip between the back end of the wood insert and move up and down moves certain tabs to an unlatched state. Once unlatched, the wood panel can be removed...providing access to bolt removal and allowing for the rest of the removal action to get the door panel off. Once the panel was off, I had access to the window lift moter and lift mechanism. I unbolted the motor and got it out of the way, then drilled out four very stout rivets, freeing the old mechanism. I reversed the process, installing new rivets of course, and, viola!, my window worked just fine.
As a side note, I later repaired what was wrong with the old lift mechanism and its ready for duty in another 140.
I'm not sure I understand your question. I have no pics of the door panel removal project. I certainly have pics of my S420 ("Fancy"). And...I have a photo of my S420 and I crossing the finish line at Indy. You know...I might have taken a photo of the door unassembled. I'll look tomorrow and post shortly thereafter.

RE: Replacing the rear window regulators
Thank you soo much Russell and Benz-Friend for all your help, instructions and e-mails.
I will post thorough simple to follow instructions with pictures as soon as I have finished. I have yet to order the rear regulator, I still have a glimmer of hope that I can fix the old one. I will commence work as soon as the weather improves slightly
Russell and Benz-Friend, I owe you guys a drink [:D]
BTW Benz-Friend, what did you have to do to the old regulator to free it up?
W140Gill: Yesterday I started to answer your question and then realized that it had been far enough in the past that I couldn't give you an accurate answer. Last evening I pull the old lift mechanism out of the plastic bag Mercedes had shipped the replacement in. I studied it, ran the trolley up and down and couldn't locate the item that stuck. What I think it was was the cable splice link. That link got caught in the...no...I can't describe it. I will say that the problem would not have occurred had the bottom stop (an adjustment bolt that can be adjusted about half an inch up or down...thus changing how far the window glass travels to its lowest point) not been at its extreme lowest position. I believe that the said adjustment bolt was not sufficiently tightened when the car was assembled. In any event, I have a perfectly fine right rear door window lift mechanism for a 1994 S420 available to anyone who has the need. I'd sell it for $35.00 plus shipping of about $10.00 (has to be in a large box).
You can see why I never found work writing technical manuals.[:)]
