I Don't know anymore.........?

I had the idle control valve cleaned on the 380 and now the idle is worse. When I put the car in reverse it revs to about 1000rpm and then obviously the transmission slams it into gear cause its being revved. Then you put it into park and the idle goes to 1000rpm and stays. When in D and driving it is perfect.

The only way at this point to make it back to perfect idiling was when i pulled out this little hose from this round part that is attached to the distributer cap.....when plugged back in then the idle increases.

How could this happen after cleaning the idle control valve? I used carb cleaner......does it need sometimes of oil maybe? I gonna have my mechanic look for me but for now I give up.[V]

Same Problem

My car was doing the exact same thing: high idle, slamming transmission, ran well otherwise, etc. - very annoying. The idle control unit and idle air valve were replaced; we tried cleaning the valve like you but that did not work. The car runs like new now. BTW, the mechanic used parts from a 380 to diagnose the problem.

Didnt mention it on the board yet but I got a parts car of a good family freind the other day.......85 380SE. He just put new wiring and idle valve in the summer so I swiped them out of that car and now mine runs like a dream!

Anything I could do to make it start up better? Once its started its perfect.
