i was watching miami vice this morning on spiketv and i saw the coolest mercedes stunt driving. mostly because the car was a black w126 sel amg. it was a pretty standard following scene then the sel hits the e-brake or something and turns 180 speeding off in the other direction.
how often were sels&secs in movies and tv back in the day? nowadays the only time mercedes get airtime is in jay z videos, not that theres anything wrong with that, they just dont show them moving that much.
The good guys have 126s, the bad guys have 126s.. it's all good.
Nikita gets taken outside to dinner. They take a chauffeured silver 126 to the restaurant.
Victor and Nikita use the bad guys' 126 to break into the facilities and get shot up as they leave:
The W126 was even used in Tomorrow Never Dies. It was chasing after James Bond's 750iL. ...
The W126 was even used in Tomorrow Never Dies. It was chasing after James Bond's 750iL. No problems keeping up with it either. Awesome stunts too.
W126 must've been the absolute most common high class car to be used over, and over, and over again through Hollywood movies. Most guys who drove them were criminals in some way.
I never saw the W140. I did see the W220, though in Meet the Parents.
outside of rap videos in the 90s ive never seen the 140 coupe and the only time ive seen a CL on tv was on that show 'fastlane' that got canceld a while ago.
(dont ask why i was watching) and theres always one parked in the osbournes driveway.
i do remember seeing an sec on one episode of miami vice or i could be thinking of the movie 'big'. and another time i saw one on some file footage for one of those A&E city confidentail shows. outside of small clips like that the coupes are never seen. [:(!]
The 126 has some ASSKICKING moments in the movie "Suicide Kings". Christopher Walken raps his knuckles on the dash; "Good car. Good car. I used to have one of these, you know. This yours? Oh, it's your moms? Man, the Krauts make a great car."
They then try to gag him with knock-out gas and there's a great scene where the bang up the Mercedes in an underground tunnel. After surviving the effort, the young punks echo the now sedate Walken,
"Love those Kraut cars!"
Then there's the scene in Lethal Weapon 3 where the Chinese Triad are in a 126 being chased by Mel Gibson in a late 90's Pontiac Grand Am. You can see as they try to run eachother off the road that the MBZ can take the hits like a Panzer while the Pontiac looks like ripped tin-foil after 5 minutes. The MBZ ends up getting smashed in the end but still holds up to the impact extraordinarily better than anything else would have.
Then, my personal favorite is in the movie "Lost Highway"
Gangboss played exceptionally by Robert Loggia goes to the garage where the tech meticulously inspects the engine, finetuning it with almost apparent care.
As they cruise up Mulholland Drive, some jerk in a 95 T-Bird keeps honking for Loggia to speed up. Loggia puts his arm out politely to tell the guy to pass.
The guy in the Ford gives the connected guys the finger as he passes and you can hear Loggia in the driver seat say;
"This is where mechanical excellence and one thousand four hundred horsepower pay off."
SSCCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he runs the guy off the road in a fantastic display and grabs him out of his seat, pistol whips him and shouts;
"Do you know how many car lengths it takes to stop at a speed of 35 miles per hour?!?! SIX!! SIX!!"
They procede to kick the hell out of the guy and they shake themselves off and get back in to the MBZ.
I think it was at that point where I know I'd own one myself.
Haven't any of you seen Roadhouse?!?!?!?! OMG!! Swayze has an SEC he treats like his own child. Go watch that movie if you have not. Where do you think I got my screen name?
