My '82 gives me the fits. Not all the time, but maybe every 3rd or 4th time, my starter will not engage. No klick, no nothing, no matter if in park or neutral or even janking from one to the other.
I have to pop the hood and jumper the hot and starter solenoid terminals at C105 to get a start. The starter works ok there.
I replaced the electrical part of the ignition switch, the neutral safety switch and adjusted the shift linkage with new nylon bushings.
Any leads will be apreciated.

I am having similar trouble starting my 1983 300SD. Once in a while, I turn the key and absolutely nothing happens. The dash lights come on, etc and the battery is relatively new and working properly. I recently unscrewed all of the connections in the little black box (by the turbo) and cleaned them off, making sure the connections were good. But, just today it did it to me again. I gave the solenoid a few good whacks with a wrench and when I tried it again, it started right up.
Do I need to replace my starter to fix this? Is a Bosch remanufactured starter a sufficient replacement? What other things should be checked to diagnose a problem like this?
Also, how do I jump start the car from the little black box without frying myself? Cuz it may be a few days before I can get the starter replaced - and this may happen again - I want to be able to do all I can to get it started if I need to. Thanks all!
